Taking Pictures

September 24, 2008 by NEM

??????? ??????
The weather is cool, the air extremely crisp, and the leaves are starting to change.  The smell in the air is that beautiful soft smell of autumn, my favorite time of year.  There is something so wonderful, at least to me, about being able to pull on a sweatshirt and pair of jeans, and head outdoors for a fun filled day with my little girls.
A couple of days ago, I decided it was the perfect day to go out into the yard and take some pictures of the girls, who are ages 5 and 2.  I love to take pictures, and I have been told that I take good pictures, but seriously, taking pictures of a 5 and 2 year old has absolutely nothing to do with being a good photographer.  It’s pure and simple logic, its called luck.  I mean seriously, it is next to impossible to get a two year old to pose for the camera, and if she does pose it is for only a fleeting second.  Let’s just say I don’t have that problem with my 5 year old little diva.

On this day in particular, however, I decided that I wanted a picture of the two of them together.  I put them next to the newly blooming mums and said “ok, say cheese for mommy”!  Please, for all of you  “kind of” photographer moms out there, can we find a new term to say when taking pictures, aside from “cheese”, because saying cheese leads to wrinkled nose pictures with sometime funny grins, cute and all, but not hang on the wall in a pretty frame material.

After taking about 150 shots, I did get a beautiful head shot of the girls lying in the grass.  Priceless and sweet, definitely will hang it on the wall in a pretty frame.

In her free time (when she has it, which isn’t often), Jessica likes to design hair bows, tutus and “jazz” up clothing and shirts for her girls.  She also loves to do graphic design work.  She says that one day she would love to write a book, (when she has time).

I know what you mean about saying cheese. I think it is supposed to get people to open their mouth and show those big toothy grins but my son just completely ignores the request. In fact, he sticks his hands in his mouth and holds his lips open wide and looks goofy whenever we ask him to pose!
